Before you can use digiKam, you must first download and install it. There are three ways to do that:
  • Use a package provided by your operating system
This is the preferred way. It is easy and stable, but it might be a version which is somewhat older.
  • Compile a tarball which we provide
This is a bit more complicated, but you can install the most recent stable version.
  • Compile the KDE4 latest versions (git repository) where we currently work in.
This is even more complicated, but as recent as it gets. This is needed when you want to help us to find bugs or help us develop.
You can choose the one which fits you best. We provide detailed instructions for each of them.
Note: check the dependencies before trying to compile digiKam.

Flattr (icon theme), Icon Pack with the Flattest Icons for Linux Systems

Flattr (icon theme), Icon Pack with the Flattest Icons for Linux Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Mageia, Elementary OS, Debian, Redhat, Slackware, Mageia and Most Popular linux distro.

Linux users can choose from hundreds, if not more, of icons for their operating systems. There is something for everyone. If you don't like flat icons, you will surely find something you can use, no matter how different your tastes are from everyone else's.

When reporting missing icons make sure to follow these steps so we can resolve it faster:

For Linux:
  1. Add screenshots, images speak louder than words. Add a screenshot of the missing icon and the instances where it's displayed ` (menus, taskbars, panels, notifications, etc.).
  2. Use the following title prefix (without the quotes): "[Linux] App_name Desktop_environment" - that way we can tag them appropriately.
  3. Add the relevant launcher information, software in Linux DE uses files with the extension .desktop as launchers in menus (like Homerun, Mint menu, Gnome Shell overview, Unity, etc.), these launchers are stored in /usr/share/applications (there might be a /kde folder for KDE apps) for software installed through a package or the package manager. Applications such as Google Chrome apps install their launchers here: /home/$USER/.local/share/applications/. Simply open these files with a text editor and copy their contents into your issue.
  4. Add a description of the software, it's very important for us to know what the software does as we are not able to install every software under the sun and test them.

Some software uses hardcoded paths in their launchers, as such even when we add the icon the system will not load it, you may use Hardcoded Icon Fixer to resolve this problem.

Contributions
  • You're allowed (and welcomed) to contribute icons to the icon theme, however, make sure to read the wiki to get up and close with the design guidelines.
  • When creating pull requests make sure that your local copy is up to date before pushing changes.
  • Add a preview of the icon to the pull request, in the size of the icon and a zoomed version.
Download

Icons are available to download directly from this repository. Simply clone it and move the resulting folder to the appropriate path.
In a Terminal execute the following command:
git clone https://github.com/NitruxSA/flattr-icons.git
Alternatively, click here.

Install
Move the folder(s) Flattr to /usr/share/icons
And finally select it in the Settings.

Install Fotoxx 15.02 on ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS) and Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana

Fotoxx 15.02 released, you can install on ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS) and Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana

Fotoxx is an all-in-one complex image editor and collection manage open source graphical software. It provides users with powerful tools for manipulating image files made with a digital camera.

Features at a glance

The application features brightness and contrast functionality, allowing users to change bright and dark image areas independently, the ability to reduce haze and intensify colors, as well as HDR support, so you can merge underexposed and overexposed images, while improving detail in both bright and dark areas.

It can also create panorama images, allowing users to stitch multiple images together, as well as the usual crop, rotate, flip, resize, red-eye removal, sharpen fuzzy edges, reduce noise in low-light photos, stretch, and distort functionality.

Another interesting feature is the ability to use 24 bits per color in internal edit calculations. It removes color castes, reduces sharpen and blur, expands or flattens brightness distribution, fixes brightness uniformity issues, and removes dark spots on scanned slides.

What's new in Fotoxx 15.02:
  • The indexing process for newly added image files was made faster: speedup is about 1.2x for a 7200 rpm disk and 1.9x for an SSD.
  • A multi-row panorama capability was added by integrating the Panorama Tools utilities into the Fotoxx menus. Very easy to use.
  • Slide Show: the maximum zoom-in speed was increased by 2x. (significant for a large or high DPI monitor or a slow computer).
  • Slide Show: the option to show captions/comments can be configured per image, and these can be made to vanish after a specified interval.
  • User Settings: Thumbnail file size can be set to 128/256/512 pixels (default 256). 512 is a bit slower but better for a large or high DPI monitor, or when viewing gallery pages with the thumbnail size set to maximum.
  • Mashup: mouse-painted image transparencies are easier to control.
  • Mashup: transparency blends can be set separately for all 4 image edges.
  • Cosmetic improvements for gallery view and metadata short report.
  • Startup parameter -nosync was replaced with the more correct -noindex.
  • Bugfix: quick rotate 90 degrees: metadata was not being copied.
  • Bugfix: crash if switch to gallery view during a slide show transition.
  • Bugfix: HDR/HDF/Stack: crash if [cancel] pressed twice rapidly.
