Mozilla Thunderbird 31.4.0 is released and available for download (ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Opensuse, Mageia, CentOS, Debian)

Mozilla Thunderbird is one of those rare applications that provides users with a feature-rich, easy to use and extendable email client. Besides begin an email client, the software is also a very good RSS news reader, as well as a newsgroup and chat client. It is supported and installed by default in many Linux operating systems.

What's New in version 31.4.0
  • The previous issues with jp mac builds have now been fixed, and Thunderbird will no longer need to be run in 32-bit mode.

How to install Thunderbird 31.4.0 on 32 bit Ubuntu, Debian CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia, OpenMandriva and derivative systems, open a new Terminal window and bash (get it?) in the following commands:
$ wget ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.4.0/linux-i686/en-US/thunderbird-31.4.0.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf thunderbird-31.4.0.tar.bz2
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/thunderbird*
$ sudo mv thunderbird /opt/thunderbird31.4.0
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/thunderbird31.4.0/thunderbird /usr/bin/thunderbird

To start Thunderbird 31.4.0, just open a terminal, type thunderbird and hit enter.

$ wget ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.4.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/thunderbird-31.4.0.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf thunderbird-31.4.0.tar.bz2
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/thunderbird*
$ sudo mv thunderbird /opt/thunderbird31.4.0
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/thunderbird31.4.0/thunderbird /usr/bin/thunderbird

To start Thunderbird 31.4.0, just open a terminal, type thunderbird and hit enter.
Note: This will replace the version of Thunderbird you have already on your system with Thunderbird 31.
